Bible Reading Plan | Life Journal

Why should we read the Bible?

What most Christians fail to realize today is that the Bible contains necessary guidelines for us, Christians, on how to live a victorious life, without the need to go through unnecessary pains and sufferings. These instructions are not simply referring to a collection of rules of dos and donts, instead they give us insight into a real life experiences of the heroes/characters in the Bible which we can observe thoroughly, so that we can learn something out of it. The number one reason many Christians don't read their Bible is not because they do not know what the Bible is for them, but they simply do not have time to read the Bible! In other words, most Christians today are not well equipped on how to develop a habit of feeding themselves daily from the word of God which is the Bible.

How to get started in reading the Bible?

If we never spend time reading the Bible before and then we somehow decide to start reading the Bible then it is advisable that we do not start reading the whole book of the Bible at once. Instead, we should have a daily program where we read 3 to 4 chapters of the Bible in which this will take about 20 minutes a day!

What is the Life Journal Reading Plan?

Developed by Pastor Wayne Cordeiro of New Hope Church, this highly effective and convenient yearly reading plan is used and loved by Ps. Steve Cioccolanti and Discover Church. By simply reading through 3 to 4 chapters a day, by the end of the year you will have read through the Old Testament once and the New Testament twice alongside your Church.

Additionally, the SOAP method of journaling helps you to go deep within the Word and discover real life applications through the moving of the Holy Spirit. DCO often Life Journals together and the Body is edified to hear each other's Scriptures, Observations, Applications, and Prayers.

SOAP Example from Pastor Steve Cioccolanti

S: 2 SAMUEL 23:8 These are the names of the mighty men whom David had…37 in all.

O: David did not do it alone. He was surrounded by good company and courageous people. It’s like a cycle. They were with him, learned from him and became better through his influence, but David also became stronger because of them. They helped each other become better versions of themselves.

A: You need to be surrounded by good people. Children need good parents. Artists need to be around better artists. Young people can learn from elders. Every Christian should be accountable to people who love you and want to see you grow.

P: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your good Word. Help me make good relationships with trustworthy people and people who want to see me grow. Thank You that I’m blessed to be a blessing to others also. I bless Discover Church and pray that I would have a word in season for its members, in Jesus’ Name.
